ADI is currently looking for volunteers to live and work in Papua New Guinea.

As an ADI volunteer, you’ll work hand-in-hand with our local health partners on a daily basis. You might train local health workers, implement field projects such as family planning, organise and coordinate remote integrated health patrols and in-service health workshops, and assist at the local hospital.

You’ll also enjoy rugged adventures travelling to remote health facilities and meet many extraordinary people who’ll surprise you with their inspiring stories.

Australian Doctors International (ADI) is a not-for-profit, non-government health care and development aid organisation working in remote and rural regions of Papua New Guinea (PNG).

We are seeking Volunteer Medical Officers for our projects in PNG for a 5-12 months’ deployment.

****Job Purpose:****

The Volunteer Medical Officer is responsible for providing medical treatment, staff education and outreach support.

****Key Responsibilities:****

  • Provide clinical inpatient and outpatient services at health centres
  • Provide case based training and education to local health staff
  • Support disease prevention activities, e.g. for TB or malaria
  • Undertake in-service training, when needed
  • Motivate local health staff to improve quality of health care and the condition of each health facility
  • Advocate for improvements to health service delivery

****Skills and Competence:****

  • Minimum four (4) years post-graduate experience which includes primary health care
  • MB BS from a recognised Australian or New Zealand university or equivalent PNG qualification
  • Current national medical registration in Australia, New Zealand or Papua New Guinea
  • Skills and expertise relevant to providing medical services in remote PNG
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to working in cross-cultural environments
  • A preparedness to work with limited resources

****Living Allowance:****

ADI provides a monthly living allowance, food allowance, housing, airfares and other travel expenses.
